Ruth Roman was born on June 22, 1939 at Lynn Massachusetts. The actress is the youngest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. Her father, who was a carnival barker, was killed at the age of a tiny girl, requiring her mother to support her family through work as a waitress and cleaning woman. Ruth was born in a poor neighborhood of Boston Massachusetts where she enrolled in school. The school she was attending after only two years in order to pursue acting as a profession. This path was fraught with difficulties. After obtaining a position at New York as a model for a magazine that dealt with detectives, she had a difficult time trying to secure jobs in the stage. Following a short period as a hat-wearing club girl, she decided to return home and quit her job. She was an usherette during the early morning hours and also appeared at the New England Repertory Company by the evening. This was her first acting position that was permanent. She received a master's certificate in drama at Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
